A unique opportunity

Emergency responders are generally regarded as some of the world’s bravest men and women, as they risk their lives every day to save the lives of perfect strangers. Along with the paramedics, police officers, and firefighters who keep the towns and cities safe, there are also mountain rescue, coastguards, and search and rescue teams who work to ensure that everyone is safe – no matter what the situation is.
They’d all touched many people’s hearts during their careers, and now it appeared as if one miracle was about to change this woman’s life forever. It was now time to locate her guardian angel.
A day to remember

A fire broke out at an apartment building on Washington Street in Connecticut on June 25, 1998. This wasn’t just a typical call to the local emergency services; they knew individuals would be in great danger if they didn’t arrive in time. Josibel Aponte, a five-year-old girl, was inside. While her mother was at work, the girl was staying with her uncle Jofrey, but matters were about to take a turn she would never forget this day.
Josibel admits to having a fuzzy memory. However, she recalls that the room was filled with smoke before she attempted to wake up her sleeping uncle. Unfortunately, nothing Josibel did was enough to pique his interest. It wasn’t long until the smoke overtook Josibel’s young body, and all she remembers is darkness. They were both in a fight for survival.
The scene,

When he received a call about a fire not far from where he was, Peter Getz was one of the patrol policemen in the area. Peter and his partner arrived at the scene in their patrol car to find the structure entirely engulfed in flames. If they were to help, they needed to act quickly. Peter noticed a firefighter jumping out of a window with a small child in his arms at that point.
The firefighter shoved the baby into Peter’s arms as they climbed back inside to continue battling the blaze as soon as the police officer arrived to assist. If he wanted to save the young child, he’d have to think quickly, and it would require all of his emergency training to figure out what to do.
Try CPR

When Peter arrived at work, he promptly transported the young girl to her car. She wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse, which was unfortunate. To make matters worse, the tiny infant was covered in ash from the fire, and it appeared as though Peter would lose her before he could intervene. He was fortunate in that he understood exactly what to do. Peter, like all police officers, was trained in first aid and understood how to perform CPR.
The cop was well aware that waiting for an ambulance would be disastrous for the child, who required emergency medical assistance. In reality, one more minute of inaction turned out to be a minute too late. While Peter started CPR in the back of the patrol car, his partner took the wheel and drove to the hospital with the little patient in the back.
Her name

Thankfully, Peter’s training paid off, and the young girl was breathing on her own by the time the patrol car arrived at the hospital room. A team of doctors and nurses were on standby to take over, but the journey was far from over.
Peter had just saved her life; surely he deserved to know her name at the least? He quickly discovered that the young lady was none other than Josibel. She wasn’t alone in the flat, though.
Developing a bond

Peter couldn’t get the incident out of his mind, and he wanted to make sure the young girl recovered completely from the fire.
For the next few days, he proceeded to visit the hospital, where the police officer was introduced to Josibel’s family. Her uncle Jofrey, on the other hand, was not so fortunate; he died as a result of his injuries incurred in the fire. Peter decided to get the young girl a teddy bear to cheer her up while she was in the hospital.
Providing assistance to the family

That wasn’t the end of it. Josibel and her story had affected the whole police department, and they now wanted to do everything they could to assist them in recovering from the tragedy that had claimed her uncle and nearly took their little baby.
The policemen persuaded Bob’s Furniture to provide goods to the family, while the rest of the squad raised enough money to return Jofrey’s body to Venezuela. Josibel appeared to have had a meaningful impact on Peter.
Keeping close eye on everything

Peter’s position as a police officer allowed him to keep tabs on his family. The cop needed to know that Josibel was safe and had recovered from her injuries, no matter how hard he tried.
That is, until the young girl’s family moved away and Peter lost contact with her. In 2014, everything was going to change. It had been 16 years after the fire, and Josibel was determined to find the guy who had saved her life many years ago.
A message that was unexpected

Josibel admitted that she was sentimental about the fire and that she wanted to learn more about it. She quickly looked up her name on the internet, and it wasn’t long before she was staring at a photo of herself being carried to safety in Peter’s arms.
Josibel was given a name based on her appearance. She only had to make a quick search on social media to find the man she was looking for. Josibel had sent Peter a message, which he had not expected to receive.
